November 19, 20265 min read

Open farmland, mountain views, and none of the Parkway traffic - here's what to do in the valley locals call one of the Smokies' best-kept secrets.

Wears Valley sits between Pigeon Forge and Townsend, and it's often called one of the Smokies' best-kept secrets - open farmland, mountain views, and almost none of the Parkway traffic.

What to do

Wears Valley Zipline Adventures

Long courseHalf-day

One of the longer zipline courses in the area, strung across the valley's hillsides - a solid half-day activity that doesn't require a park entrance.

CLIMB Works Smoky Mountains

ZiplineAerial bridges

Zipline and aerial-bridge courses through the treetops, with off-road sections for a different pace than a straight zip run.

Horseback riding

Harper Bros. MountainWaldens Creek Stables

Harper Bros. Mountain and Waldens Creek Stables both run guided trail rides in the area - a few outfits even let you ride into the national park itself.

Wears Valley is mostly cabins and open land rather than restaurants and shops, so it's best paired with a day in Pigeon Forge or Townsend rather than visited on its own.

The WTH Cabin

Close to the valley, close to everything else

The WTH Cabin puts you minutes from Wears Valley Road, with Pigeon Forge and the park entrance both within easy reach.
